Attorneys Alexander Linnikov and Sergei Starovoytov spoke live on the Echo of Moscow radio about the notorious criminal case against the ex-Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FPS) Oleg Korshunov. Current reform of the FPS financial and management system is supposed to reduce the dependence of the FPS on commercial suppliers, save the federal budget resources, make the contract system transparent and fair, and concentrate state defense contracts in the hands of state corporations and single suppliers appointed by the Government of Russia. The lawyers believe that the unlawful prosecution of Oleg Korshunov – one of those who designed and implemented the reform of FPS finances – is instigated by businessmen and companies operating under the “protection” of high-level government officials that lost their meal tickets because of his decisive actions. Defense attorneys told the Echo of Moscow audience about events that preceded the Kroshunov case and explained the absurdity of the charges.
