
13/02/2025, Alexander Linnikov and Leonid Karpov took part in the XXI International scientific and practical conference “Kovalevsky Readings” on the topic “The goals of criminal law. Past, present, future. Legacy of I.Ya. Kozachenko”, held in Yekaterinburg.
The Kovalevsky Readings, which have been held since 2004, are among the most significant scientific and practical forums in Russia and are an authoritative international discussion platform in the field of law. The conference is traditionally attended by heads of federal government agencies, representatives of the scientific, business and professional communities, as well as leading foreign experts. The organizers of the Kovalevsky Readings are the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ural State University of Law (USUL) and the LOYS Law Association.
The founder of L&P made a presentation on the topic “Selling cannot stagnate — regulation and practice of M&A with a foreign element in modern conditions.” During the session, issues of responsibility for violations of legislation in the field of foreign economic activity were discussed, in particular, tax crimes and customs evasion and other crimes in the field of foreign economic activity, international sanctions and their impact on punishments under foreign economic activity, alternative punishments and their effectiveness in the field of foreign economic activity, through the prism of analyzing the effectiveness of criminal and administrative sanctions in foreign economic activity and dispute settlement without the application of criminal sanctions.
Leonid Karpov presented a report on “Legal and organizational problems of international settlements in the BRICS space and beyond” to the participants of the session. Particular attention was paid to changing the structure of international settlements, namely the gradual abandonment of the US dollar and euro in favor of national currencies. An assessment of the development of settlements based on digital currencies is also given.
